  • Sydney Streets expression of interest

  • Sydney Streets returns for rotating street closures across some of our favourite inner-city neighbourhoods. We'll set the atmosphere by closing the streets and providing roving performers, portable toilets and outdoor furniture. The series will be supported by a print and digital marketing campaign.

Apply for event space during the road closure

Complete this form to take advantage of the additional space available during the road closure event with activities such as kids workshops, pop-up stalls, outdoor dining or live performances. We’ll assess all applications on a case-by-case basis. Formal approval will be given to successful applicants.

Each business will be responsible for supplying their own equipment and services including furniture, waste management, security and patron management. An expression of interest application must be submitted and approved to be eligible to trade on the street.

    Other ways to get involved

If you’d like to have a temporary food stall we’ll need your temporary food stall approval reference number included in this application.

We’re encouraging businesses to also activate in-store with promotions, cultural programming, product demonstrations and specials. If you’re not applying for outdoor space, no approvals are required. We encourage you to list your activity on What’s On to be part of the Sydney Streets marketing campaign.

  • Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be a business, organisation, community group or government agency within the City’s local government area with a product or service provided to residents. Businesses within the road closure area will be prioritised however we will consider expressions of interest from businesses within the surrounding streets. We will consider the mix of businesses and activations within the event to balance the offerings on the day. The distribution of flyers and/or other marketing/promotional collateral material is not permitted and is in line with our guidelines for single-use items. Political, offensive or religious offerings or marketeers will not be permitted.

  • The City of Sydney has recently adopted a policy which allows you to use footpath space in front of your store (subject to guidelines) without seeking approval from us.

The policy doesn’t apply to stores in the city centre or along light rail routes.  No sales are permitted on the footpath and activations are allowed up to 60cm in front of the shopfront.

Businesses are encouraged to read through guidelines and self-assess eligibility – no formal approval is needed.

Please read through display of goods on footpath policy to determine your eligibility.

  • You must stay within your current patron capacity and conditions of your liquor license. Drinking alcohol won’t be permitted outside the approved licensed areas of businesses.

Licenced outdoor areas must be enclosed with temporary barriers such as planter boxes or fencing.

No drinks in glasses are permitted within the approved outdoor area.
