Who’s eligible to apply:
- Cafés, restaurants, bars and cultural venues that serve food and drinks for consuming at the premises
- All venues must have development consent to operate as a food premises or hold a liquor licence
- The road space you are proposing to use must be next to or adjoining your businesses
Unsuitable road space
- Bus stops or bus zone
- Roads with speed limits of more than 50km/hr
- Clearways
- Parking for Australia Post, police, fire, ambulance, or car share
- No stopping zone
- Bike lanes
- Accessible parking
- In-road fire hydrant
Potentially suitable road space:
- Hourly parking, including metered parking
- Permit exempt parking spaces
- Drop off/pick up 15 minute parking
- Loading zone
- Taxi zone
- No parking zone
There will be other types of parking spaces that may or may not be suitable too. There is no one-size- fits-all approach for every street. It is a complex issue that requires a detailed assessment. All applications are considered on a case-by-case basis due to the complexity of our streets, and the specific context of your location, the parking restrictions and the neighbouring businesses and road environment.

- Include a sketch or diagram showing all the existing fixed structures such as signage, poles and bike racks.
- If your space is bounded by a kerb, pedestrian crossing, tree bed or garden bed, please also include this on your layout.
- Please label each of the elements on your plan. For example, if a rectangle indicates a garden bed, write “garden bed”.
- Clearly mark-out and label the parking spaces you’re applying for
- Include the width of the footpath, the location of any kerb ramps, driveways, laneways or other cross-overs within or adjacent to the space you are applying for
- If you are using a google streetview image, please make sure to include any elements that are there now that aren’t in the image
